Greensburg Benefit Road Trip

Today started with our boy, Jason leaving the hotel bright and early for an interview with Marshall Ice, on the Morning Ice Show at KACY FM in Arkansas City.  He then swooped back to the hotel to pick up Javelyn for an interview at another radio station, country #1 station KSOK with Shawn Wheat.  Shawn interviewed Jason for the news, then proceeded to interview Javelyn for the morning show Shawn will be hosting on Friday.  Shawn then gave them a tour of the station, complete with feeding their pet cows.  At the end, Jason interviewed Shawn about their tornado shelter they had just installed at the station.

On to town, Jason and Javelyn started at the local police station, meeting Sergeant Rick Potter to get a few officers to help out with the event.  Jason and Javelyn stopped at the famous Sonic food place for cherry-lime slushes and chicken wraps - umm-umm.  Wish they had them in Los Angeles.

After that, on to the Wilson Park Rotunda where the event will be taking place on Saturday.  Angela Harding was supervising a bunch of energetic high school volunteers in painting the rotunda so it would look brand new.  When some of the students heard we needed more volunteers, they rallied up their friends and brought them down to help.  Tony Tapia of Arkansas City Parks & Recreation gave Jason and tour of the park and discussed strategies of where to put everything for Saturday.  Some of the ‘guests of the state’ will be helping put up the temporary fence for the event.

Throughout the day, J & J shot footage of interviews with local people asking why they wanted to help out the town of Greensburg - we will be posting excerpts soon on youtube.com.

J & J contacted the Traveler magazine, home to the periodical which had the cover story on the concert and picked up copies to show people - again, NICE spread.  We’ll try and scan a copy soon as a link to this blog - so check back if you’d like to see it.

J & J then made a round back to the Red Zone to interview Heather, bumping into Stacy, an old friend of Jason’s from high school days.  They ended up shooting the breeze about the good old days and “where are they now” (Jason was quite a handful when he was younger).  Interesting how Jason never thought he’d ever come back to Ark City, much less run an event benefiting all the people.

Nighttime brought Jason and Javelyn to the Native Lights Indian Casino - Javelyn started with $20, ending with $30, while Jason ended up starting with $5 to win $44.  They celebrated with a hot dog...

All in all - amaaazing how nice everyone is out here.  Especially saw it in the police and security people - very kind individuals with great hearts... and amazing interviews we caught on camera - can’t wait to share them.
