Started out the morning with an amazing continental, hot breakfast at the Best Western Atrium where Jason and Javelyn were staying at 6:00 am. Hit the road by 7:00 am where they were met with very dense fog - had to drive slow to avoid hitting any stray deer which might want to venture across the road.
First stop was Roger and Jessica Harris’ house in Pratt where they did an interview. Jessica had the wedding dress which was the only thing standing after the tornado blew through her parents’ home in Greensburg - Montel Williams picked up the story and married the couple on his show, giving them some extras he picked up getting married himself shortly after them. Full interview will be on youtube soon. Jessica then led them to her parents’ house. In fact, Jessica’s dad is the pastor of the First Baptist in the haert of Greensburg. Greensburg looked like a land of hope with lots of construction and new growth going on - construction crews and FEMA everywhere.
They visited the Greensburg Hospital, met with the Superintendent of Greensburg School District and various other people, getting their stories and gathering information to know how to best distribute the proceeds from the Greensburg Benefit Concert. They happened to catch the Superintendent of the School District just before some major interviews with reporters and legislators who were bussed in from all over Kansas.
In the midst of traveling around Greensburg, Jason noticed a woman with a camera and asked her if she was with the media. Turned out she was with Channel 6, a CBS affiliate who actually was on the lookout for him, so they set up an inteview there and then to roll tape for the 5:00 and 6:00 pm news. They gave out a bunch of free passes to the people of Greensburg to invite them to the concert.
On to Wichita to pick up co-producer Vairon Perez. He called in saying he was going to be 5 hours later because of a major flight delay - so, Jason and Javelyn ended up relaxing and hanging out in Wichita, a great town with lots of grass to take a big nap in. Feeling refreshed, they then picked up Vairon at 9:00 pm and took him down through Greensburg to the Native Lights Casino in Oklahoma, everyone winning some $$ once again. Then, on to the Red Zone to pay respects and give out more posters and bracelets and picking up local talent for the concert.
There was a few set of teenagers in the streets of Arkansas city on the way back, so Jason popped out giving out a few more free sets of passes.
